The most important things you will ever learn in Real Estate…

Posted on December 5, 2009

…are probably going to come through hard lessons and mistakes. But what if we could minimize the mistakes… and lessen the lessons, especially the more painful ones?

That’s what I sat there thinking about during our last Coffee Talk on Friday.  We had an amazing event with our Realtor Mentor David Burton and Lender Mentor Sandy Battise (@SandyBattise), and I left with a warm fuzzy feeling of immense gratitude to these two industry leaders. To give you some background, we had a pretty small turnout due to the weather forecasts for snow, (which never panned out enough to shut down the roads). Austin weather! Anyway I digress, so both Sandy and David had time to chat with everyone since the group was small.  We got to learn about the struggles of a brand spanking new agent, and even the struggles some of us face a few years in.

What I mostly felt while listening to both of these guys talk was how amazingly open and available they are to share their knowledge and experience with new folks… their competition. Yes YOU! And yet, they are happy to talk to our members, and share the knowledge they have acquired from years of experience, mistakes, and wisdom.

So come, learn, get to know your fellow associates in this business, and maybe you’ll leave with the same warm fuzzy feeling I did.

Thanks Sandy and David!

Here are some pics from the event.

The top take-aways:

  • Time blocking may be one of the most important things you can do in your career
  • Make sure you are busy doing tasks that are productive, not tasks that leave you running in circles
  • Being involved in our industry is part of your job. We are not islands. Get out there and get involved!
